What is the State Certificate of Attainment?

The Certificate of Attainment in Greek certifies the 6 levels of knowledge of the language. These levels correspond to the 6 levels proposed in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 and A1 for children aged 8 to 12). More information can be found here http://www.greek-language.gr/certification/. The examinations are conducted at examination centers recognized by the Centre for Greek Language (KEG), which belongs to the Ministry of Education of Greece.

At what level can I sit an exam?

You can do the exam for all levels, even for two different levels in the same year. The following exams exist:

- The Attainment of Greek Language

- The Attainment of Greek Language for Special Purposes

-Professional Competence for Candidates of Vocational Training Centers (KEK)

How do I know my level?

To make a freeassessment of your level of Greek and to set together your goals, please contact us. You will have an oral and written test and will help you plan your preparation.

After completing your enrollment and have sent your tuition fees for at least 10 lessons, we give you access to our online platform where we have all preparation materials. You study the materials and do the exercises. You send them to your teacher, who corrects within 48 hours as many exercises as you send.

Are there any private lessons?

Courses are usually private / one-to-one and are based on the personal programme that is created for each individual candidate. The goals are shared with the student. It is rarer to have group courses held.

Which teaching materials are used?

Methodology
Teaching methodologies have to assure interaction between facilitators and participants and among learners rather than transmit homogenized knowledge or techniques and ask for reproduction. This is especially true when intercultural skills are at question because they cannot be “learned” in a cognitive approach, but they need to be experienced and developed in interaction.
In accordance with the principles set out above, the training methodology developed for the course will focus on facilitating the objective-based interaction amongst all persons involved. As an intended side effect, participants will experience themselves and reflect on interactive and cooperative learning methods in an intercultural process, which they may consider and adapt for their work purposes.
It is a workshop design that seeks to reach out and include all learning styles by utilizing a wide range of pedagogies, including problem-solving, group and pair work, reflective discussion, experiential learning, brief didactic inputs on concepts and theories, and action planning, in order to apply what was learned. Special attention is given to involve participants’ regional backgrounds and experiences and to facilitate mutual exchange.

Follow-up
In order to facilitate and mutually support participants to apply and disseminate what they have learned, participants and the trainers will create an e-network as a forum for exchanging ideas, experiences, and materials. Networking will enhance the possibilities for further cooperation amongst its members on the basis of new partnerships and/ or projects on intercultural adult education.

Programme of Educational/Cultural Activities

A programme of educational-cultural activities functions alongside the language courses. It is adjusted to all levels of language ability. The aim of this programme is two-fold: on the one hand it is to practise and reinforce students΄ confidence in using Greek, and on the other to bring them into contact with the reality of contemporary Greece. The programme includes:

  • Conversation classes where students present their language learning projects and interviews with Greeks
  • Lectures by experts and other professionals on themes such as the arts, politics, history, society and modern life in Greece
  • Visits to working places and other sites of cultural and social interest
  • Language workshops where students practise the language through language games and communicative activities
  • Discussions on a contemporary Greek movie
  • Tandem classes, i.e. conversations on specific subjects with a Greek native speaker who learns the student's language.
  • "Visit my country", where students present their countries in various ways (photos, objects, tastes, etc)

On a regular base we organise as well:

  • Greek song learning
  • Greek dance courses
  • Traditional Greek cooking
  • Trekking and other nature activities
